Sisi Kayan, after his PMC- Master in Project Management for International Cooperation, Euro-Project Management and Local development reflects on the importance of ASVI Social Change in his professional growth.
“I fulfilled all my dreams. These words have been a kind of leitmotiv in my life. I pronounced and wrote them when I was 18, after finishing my minor seminary, where I had been studying since I was 12. I was going to be a priest. It took me 28 years to understand the real meaning of these words, thanks to ASVI Social Change. “The courage of having dreams and the ability (and skills) of fulfilling them”.
I became a priest in 1995, after a traditional educational path with two degrees in philosophy and theology. I spent 10 years working as a teacher and seminary instructor, as a headmaster in a public school (junior and high school) with more than 1000 students, and as a diocesan administrator in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Then I came to Italy. I wanted to study Communication Sciences. After my degree, I was chosen by the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, which sent me to the US for a one-year exchange programme in the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
Back to Italy, I started a PhD research on intercultural communication, focused on the image of poor people in the time of relief operations. This topic raised my interest in cooperation and humanitarian relief. Therefore, I decided to gain skills and get a degree which could help me implementing what I considered good principles for good cooperation, respectful of dignity in every man. After considering other possibilities, I decided to be part of ASVI Social Change as positively impressed by its profile and professional plan. I was right: its training is solid, wide, complex, complete, efficient, and pertinent, including several personal experiences. ASVI Social Change also facilitated my path by giving me a grant.”
